Three Dream Roles
Write the job descriptions you actually want -- before you apply anywhere.
Jump to the worksheet ↓How do you decide which roles to apply to? Which skills to build, or which projects to take on? When multiple offers land, how do you know which one is right?
It starts from the beginning: what is your dream role?
Ask yourself
What do you want to spend your day doing?
How much time do you want on coding, architecting, team comms, stakeholder comms? The Energy Audit is a great way to find out.
What responsibilities do you want to grow into?
- A stellar subject-matter expert as an IC?
- A strong technical manager for your team?
- A business leader adept at coordinating needs across teams?
What are your must-haves and nice-to-haves?
- What would your ideal workweek look like?
- Hard problems? Genius colleagues? People passionate about the product -- or about life?
- How much tolerance for tech debt?
- How much adoption of newer tools and frameworks?
Then do this
Write three “dream” job descriptions for yourself. Next, validate what it takes to get them -- the Twenty Influential People tool is a good place to start.
